BIM for better business outcomes: how to get the benefits
Richard will focus on the business reasons for BIM, as part of a digital transformation that is driven by overall business strategy led from the top, rather than technology-led. He will use examples to make the connection between primary commercial objectives and technology as an enabler.
The Reality of BIM Implementation
Moderator: Chris Seymour
Laura Smagin, Atkins
Disruptive technologies and innovative solutions
Laura will present a case study on Atkin’s current projects demonstrating considerations for future disruptive technologies. The GCC has a vision of the future which will include disruptive technologies such as Automated/Driverless Cars, 3D printing for construction and sustainable design. Atkins will showcase some of its dynamic design strategies and use of cutting edge technologies to provide solutions.
The Future of BIM
Moderator: Muhammad Jabakhanji
Chris Tebb, Mott MacDonald
Smart Infrastructure – impact of data on the built environment
Building on the Mott MacDonald feature in the 2016 Smart Cities Report, Chris will present an insight into their Smart Infrastructure projects. Where the proliferation and democratisation of knowledge is disrupting the industry and how the combination of human and system intelligence can enable more efficient outcomes for clients and users.
Charles Dunk, AECOM
BIM + Immersive Technology
Charles Dunk of AECOM outlines how these immersive technologies are helping to change the perception of BIM in the regional construction industry. Commonly, clients act as post-boxes, passing BIM models from one stakeholder to the next. Approvals might happen using model viewing software, but typically, drawings are used to communicate design intent, rather than the models themselves. However, immersive technology, virtualization and technologies such as virtual and augmented reality can provide the means for non-technical users to explore models and provide effective feedback to others within a project.
BIM and MEP Engineering
Moderator: Wael Allan, DSI
Alan Muse, RICS
Measurement Standards: space, cost and technology
Collaboratively emerging international measurement standards will significantly affect worldwide practice. These standards, covering property and construction, will also aid the development of new technologies. The two particular standards in question are:International Property Measurement Standards (IPMS): harmonising floor area calculations & International Construction Measurement Standards (ICMS): defining construction cost. This workshop will consider the emerging scope of these projects, how they integrate, and why they will enhance global practice and technological solutions such as BIM and ‘big data’.
Etienne Le Roux, CIOB
Automatically quantifying elements from intelligent BIM models
The process of automatically quantifying elements from intelligent BIM models has many benefits. Manual methods of measuring are slow and prone to user errors. Rather than costing completed designs, it enables cost managers to help the design team design to cost, adding more value and avoiding reactive value engineering. This CPD will inform delegates about this cost modelling process and will consider the following areas:
The workshop will serve as a path of discovery for those commercially involved in construction projects and provide direction on fully integrating their services into the BIM process.
Continuous professional development (CPD) is an essential component in maintaining the skills and knowledge of construction professionals working in the GCC. Taking the time to actively stay up to date in this dynamic industry is crucial to keeping pace with changes affecting how we do our jobs right through to career development and future prospects. Taking a proactive approach to your development can help you to stay on top of changes in your industry, while also demonstrating a clear commitment to personal professional improvement.
That’s why the Middle East BIM Summit will host accredited CPD workshops open to all registered attendees of the event. These free-to-attend certified workshops have been integrated into the conference agenda and will take a look at pivotal technical issues influencing the way BIM is used in this region. The knowledge gained through attendance could be vital to your next project, or the point of difference that secure you your next contract.
Attendees of the Middle East BIM Summit will have the opportunity to receive a digital Certificate of Attendance to attach to their CPD log as evidence of development once training is complete or the desired standards of learning have been met.
To receive their certificate, attendees are to submit their details, via an online form which will be available after the event has taken place. The link to the online form will be visible on www.mebimsummit.com from November 2, 2017 until November 30, 2017. You will then receive the certificate by email.Click here to request your certificate
